This is where you find Drivers and Common Manuals for your Toughbook. It will hopefully be updated as new sources are found. You will need to find the support area on most of these sites, the addresses are mostly for the home pages.The comments are mine.
Look for a text folder on the driver sites that are laid out with folders. It will contain information on decoding the sometimes confusing file names given to earlier drivers
If you are new to this, be aware that drivers can be very model specific. Be sure you use the driver for your Model and Series, they are all marked in one way or another. Also note any instructions for order of installation, typically the .inf chipset driver should be installed first.
USING INTERNET "DRIVER FINDERS" LIKE DRIVER DETECTIVE IS NOT RECOMMENDED. YOU MAY WELL END UP WITH THE WRONG DRIVER OR THE RIGHT DRIVER WITHOUT NECESSARY ADD-ONS. GET YOUR DRIVERS FROM PANASONIC.

Ok, for someone that knows how to do this...reading this will be painful, but for someone that has no idea what they need to do, this a a step by step set of instructions. It should be near impossible to screw this up.
1. Click on "Control Panel"
2. Click on "System"
3. Click on "Hardware"
4. Click on "Device Manager"
5. Click on "Mice and Other Pointing Devices"
6. Click on "generic mouse"
7. Click on "Driver"
8. Click on "Update Driver"
9. When it asks if you want to automatically check for updated drivers, select "no not at this time"
10. Click on "install from a list or a specific location"

12. Click "have disk"

21. Click on ok and select "touch pad"
22. Click "next" and you're good to go
All of this would mean you actually downloaded the proper drivers from Panasonic...if you haven't, this will not work.
This mini tutorial will work for all drivers, just change the driver name and location to suit.

Unfortunately, Panasonic seems to have gathered all of their European Sites under one umbrella removing some of my old favorite locations for drivers and Service Manuals.

Thinking of a maxed out SB but see a lot of negative reviews?
Hi,
I'm thinking of buying an SB with all the options for about $2500-3000. I live on the road so this will be my main computer, mostly internet applications and office programs but I also spend a lot of time gaming. I also like to watch Blu-Ray discs that i get through netflix on the road (I know I'm weird for still using discs). I was considering the Lenovo X220 but it doesn't have the blu-ray or graphic processor.
As a road warrior, am I fool for choosing a Sony? On this forum people seem to complain about their fragility. While I do travel constantly, I never check my laptop and always try to treat it well. I currently have a Sager NP2090 15.4" but it's just too big and heavy, plus it's 4 years old and is starting to have some problems (6.5 lbs and big).
I'm planning on getting the i7 2620m, Windows 7 pro, Radeon HD 6630m, 256mb solid state, 8gb DDR3, and Blu-Ray burner.
Any advice? Should I be looking elsewhere or might I be happy with this laptop? Can it last 4-5 years like my sager did? Thanks!
Look through the Sony forum. I could have sworn there was someone that just took delivery of a maxed out SB that didint want it. Maybe you can buy it off him and save a few bucks.

I'd expect the top end SB to be just as good as the Z, if not better.

Did you notice anything bad about the display? Is the SB display as bad as a few reviews on here have made it out to be? To be honest, the SB seems like it'd be perfect for me except for concern about black level and yellow hues on the screen....
I'm also seeing reports that the SA won't even have a different display than the SB now...the half pound savings of the carbon fiber SA chasis isn't a huge deal to me, but if the display on the SB sucks it could be a deal breaker.

If you're willing to spend that amount of money on a computer, have you ever considered the Sony Z or the upcoming SA? SA will be the same as the SB but offer a lighter frame construction made of carbon fiber, SSD as standard, and will have a higher res 1600X900 screen.

Hmmm, yeah....I will look into the SA. I spend my life on the road (20+ days per month) and a lot of that time is spent on the computer. As a result, my laptop is a big part of my life, which is why I'm willing to spend money on a good one. Thanks for the tip on the SA, I will check out the thread about them.

Otherwise the current Z may be up your alley as well. It's lighter than the SA/SB some have a 1080 screen as apposed to the 900 screen. A minor downside is that it uses the previous gen Intel chips- there's no Sandy Bridge update until June but the form factor of the computer will change to an external optical and graphics combo which may not be what you want if you're always on the go.

Speaking about build quality and fragility, the SB is actually pretty darn robust. You won't find much problems even if you're quite a careless user.
The Z is also a nice competitor. However, as a Z user myself I consider the SB superior. The only edge the Z has over the SB is the 1080p screen as well as 300 grams less weight (which is quite a bit). The SB does have a inferior screen though, the colors seemed a bit washed out, but shouldn't be a problem if you're not a screen-snob.
One thing to mark though-the current SB series is much more robust than the Z series-at least for the screen. The SB is just as (if not more) robust as the Macbook Pro. I wouldn't go too far saying that it's more robust than a thinkpad though.
If I were you I'd go with the maxed out SB. You won't be disappointed by the purchase

Hmm, well the more I look the more I think I might want to wait for the SA series. This always seems to happen to me when I shop for laptops 
The bad mouthing of the SB displays has me a bit wary. If I'm going to spring for a machine with a blu ray drive I might as well have a full HD display, although I seriously doubt I could discern the difference in resolution on a 13.3" screen. In the end, I guess waiting another few months will save me money in the long run!

New Samsung Verizon 4G LTE Modem (Needs Software Update)
Got the new Verizon 4G Modem on Friday. Prior Modem was Sprint Overdrive. There is no display on the Samsung Modem. It only has LED lights. They work OK, but there are some glaring deficiencies.
The WORST is that the GREEN LED glows SOLID when CHARGING and when FULLY CHARGED. The only way to know if the Modem is charged is to log onto the Router Web Page and look there. That is not efficient or acceptable.
The software should be UPDATED to have the LED BLINK during charging and become SOLID when FULLY CHARGED. This is a normal practice in the electronics industry and is a major oversight in this new product. This should be an easy software update that can be pushed to the device.

My Overdrive was updated several times by Sierra Wireless, the manufacturer, not Sprint.
And, in fact, the first Samsung update DID come out a few days ago directly from SAMSUNG on its website and had nothing to do with Verizon.

AIM messenger does not work on my G73JH 64bit? "Connection Lost"
I recently reformatted my Asus G73JH laptop and installed all the necessary drivers. For some reason, I am not able to connect on AIM messenger. When I try to log in, it says "Connection Lost." I am currently using AIM 7.5. I've tried older versions from 5.9 to 6.5 with the same problem. Even Aim Express doesn't work for me. I have no 3rd party antivirus or firewall programs. I even disabled my firewall, still no luck. I tried running as administrator and that does not work as well. What seems to be the problem here? For some reason, I am able to connect to aim with meebo.com. It does not have to do with my internet connection because I am currently connected to the internet and my roomate is connected to AIM perfectly fine. Any suggestions? Thanks

Sounds to me the router is setup to route the ports for AIM only to your buddy's machine.

When you say you disabled you firewall , do you mean the windows firewall? I would guess a port needs to be open if the firewall is on... Is there any options/help file in AIM interface about port opening?
If the Win. firewall is on have you verified that an exception is set for this app?

In fact they are transitioning to the more advanced resolution, 16 pixels by 9 pixels. Each pixel will be represented by a light bulb. And if you have a dead pixel you can simply go to a Walmart store and replace it with a new bulb. Yea!

Interesting, although I don't see why this computer would have to have a different name than the X120e and Edge series: it seems to be pretty much the same type of laptop. Specs are nice, although not all that impressive. A 1600x900 screen would be nice to see, but its absence is also not surprising.

VGA Keyboard&Mouse
I connected my Inspiron 910 netbook to the Vizio tv with a VGA (RGB) cable and a stereo mini jack cable. It works great. But the cables are strung out across the floor with the netbook with me.
I'm wondering if I can use shorter cables and leave the netbook by the tv and use a wireless keyboard and mouse? And if so, does it need to be laser also? Would this be the combo to use if this can be done with a netbook?

Dell XPS USB 3.0 Issues
I am having random disconnection issues with the 2 USB 3.0 ports on my newly purchased XPS L702X.
It is completely unrelated to the device and occurs at no specific interval and is only recoverable with a reboot.
Based on a Dell Support Forum - XPS 15 - USB 3.0 Problems, this issue has existed since the 1st generation release late 2010 of the current XPS series and appears to affect many users.
Based on feedback, consumers who contact Dell for resolution end up with no resolution despite motherboard/daughterboard replacements.
Also, a Renesas controller driver upgrade or rollback does not cure the issue either.
I am starting this discussion to find others who have encountered this issue as well and have either found a resolution to actually using the 3.0 ports or who may have not yet spoken up... This issue has gone on far too long without resolution and in order to get Dell to take this defect seriously, everyone affected needs to read the forum and take part in the descussion,
Please post any information you have... even if you have an XPS Laptop current model 1st and 2nd generation without 3.0 issues... you too can help find the solution.

Sadly, I've never found it to be one thing. One time it was the same old USB power issue. That is, using a wall wart to power the drive fixed it.
Then again, I run into folk that want Dell to fix it so the wall wart is not required.

What model XPS are you running?
What Renesas driver version/firmare version are you on?
Also if you can list all the settings you changed to get to zero problems, that would be great.... would help the rest of us possibly.
Many of us in the dell forum have already tried setting all the power options etc. that we are aware of as well as a few "suggestions" from Dell.
The issue occurs when you use anything that cannot be powered by a wall wart... ie. mouse, controllers, modems, keyboards, you name it.
A few have reported issues even with powered 3.0 hubs with multiple drives attached... they were unable to use the hubs and had to go with only a single ext. drive per port and depending on the drive used, some still have issues as it appears a few drives will not work with the port.
Most everyone has no issue with the USB 2.0 or eSata/USB 2.0 combo port.
What model XPS are you running?
What Renesas driver version/firmare version are you on?
Also if you can list all the settings you changed to get to zero problems, that would be great.... would help the rest of us possibly.

Looking at a 2nd hand 2530p with a 12m warrenty
Looking at replacing my Asus 1005HA netbook with a more powerful but small full laptop.
I have a chance at a HP 2530p 1.86 c2d 4gb 120gb hdd Vista
Any advice on it?
PS I do plan on getting Win7 Ulti 64bit on it within the 1st week.
If it has a good battery then it's good to go. Can see tips and performance potential in HP Elitebook 2530p Owner's Lounge
Worth also considering a 2730P tablet, which can be had for ~$400 on ebay. No ODD/2.5" caddy but does have a BOE Hydis high-NIT LCD option.
Another good choice with a faster P8xxx CPU out of the box than the 2530P, a lighter chassis, 3 USB ports, the legendary Lenovo keyboard, x4 DIY ViDock capable, understated looks and 2.5" HDD as standard.
In favor of the 2530P is the touchpad, optical drive, hybrid SSD+HDD capable via ODD caddy (+extra USB port), 13hr 93Whr 9-cell battery option, glammed appearance, modded bios, PLL overclocking and next-day onsite 3yr global warranty.
It's worth pointing out that there are unwhitelisted modded BIOS available for a variety of Lenovo notebooks, including the X200. You can find them at at The Board Room website - perhaps not based on the most recent BIOS versions but these have all been tested.
It means you can plug any expansion card into any mPCIe slot inside the laptop even if the card has not been sanctioned by the manufacturer (i.e. whitelisted). For instance, if you plug a Wifi mPCIe card of other than the original model into one of these laptops, the BIOS will not allow them to either boot or access the card. The "unwhitelist" BIOS mod removes this check and let's you use your mPCIe slots to their full potential.

Dell outlet replacement
Does anyone know how this works? I ordered a laptop from Dell and they shipped it to the wrong address so they are getting a replacement for me.
Now, from what I understand the Dell outlet laptops are already built, I don't see any exact replacements on their website, I'm sure they have other ones not on there website though. Would they try and cut corners? like give me a silver laptop instead of a black one? things like that.
Also, does anyone know long they usually take to ship out a replacement?
It's the Alienware R2 unit in my sig
Outlet always is prebuilt (returns, dents, never sent).....and they ship fairly fast.
Are they replacing w/a Outlet or new one? If they are replacing w/a Outlet one..it shouldn't take that long (depending on current stockage), if it is a new one you are getting that could realistically take a few weeks (unless it has been *pushed*). My new replacements have usually take about a month., but as stated if it's another Outlet replacement it shouldn't.
Be in constant contact with them regarding your order status & specs. You should have the replacement specs to view before the order is started for replacement.
Yes, they are replacing an outlet with an outlet. They said it should ship out within 18 days, hopefully it doesn't take the full 18. I just got off the phone with them and they said a specialist will be calling me before they start the replacement process. The R2 is no longer in productions so hopefully I don't have to settle for less.

More D630 questions...
Well I have a few more D630 questions.
1. Can I sway out the 2.2GHz C2D for a 2.4 from a ThinkPad?
2. I now have 667MHz RAM, can I use 800MHz @ full speed or will it down clock?
3. I know I need copper shims for when I update the cooling when I crack this thing open (I have the nvidia IPG, thougth it was an Intel originally), where do I get the shims? Would Microcenter have them in stock?
4. Can the Wifi card be upgraded at all?
5. Does it use SATA1.5 or SATA2?
Also is there an old D630 owners thread? I looked but didn't see one.

1. What's the model of the CPUs? If the 2.2GHz is a T7500 and the 2.4GHz is a T8300, that's a downgrade (if T7700, then OK). Clock speed isn't the only spec to compare.
2. 667MHz, I have 800MHz memory in my D630 and it shows 667MHz in BIOS.
3. Interestingly, my D630 came with a thin copper plate on the GPU from the factory. After changing the CPU thermal grease, the GPU temperatures are usually around 140F, so I haven't bothered about it. If heat from the CPU dissipates faster, it seems to help with GPU temperatures.

5. SATA-300, 3Gbps.

1. Go ahead! Be sure to apply a thin layer of Arctic Silver 5 on the T7700. I use tape to mask the CPU and a clean gift card to spread the grease. You'll want to get it as thin as possible but without any exposed surfaces.
3. Mine is a later model from April 2008.
As for the Intel FCM, it's pretty much useless unless you don't have a lot of RAM (less than 2GB). I wouldn't bother.

Lately my notebook has been getting quite hot so I've been looking at a couple solutions to lower its GPU and CPU temperatures.
The heat coming out of the vent on the top left side of the notebook is REALLY hot...
My GPU and CPU temps have been reaching 90~93 degrees Celsius when I play games mostly, like Bullestorm, TF2, SC2.
I was thinking about getting a laptop cooler but I think a better idea would be to clean the fan first.
I tried to open it up but I just couldn't figure out how to get to the fan!
I took out all the screws on the bottom but I have no idea how to get access to the fan, is it even possible?
When I took the battery out I could see a small portion of the fan and it was REALLY dusty, it was caked in dust. I want to blow it out but I don't want to blow the dust into the notebook...
Has anyone tried this and succeeded or any tips?

All of the i7 models are going to be quite a bit more than $800. You can get an i5, Win 7-64 and plenty of RAM in a Latitude E5410 for about $800. This is a 14" machine.

MSE is free & is light and does a very good job. I prefer it over Avira AV...I haven't had any problems with it. And, better yet..its free.

There was another thread here talking about this cleanup process. Although they were using the aggressive approach which I prefer as well - reformatting then starting with a fresh install of Windows 7. Someone mentioned you could use the Dell Recovery DVD for Windows 7. So I made sure to pay the $10 when I ordered my system. There is supposedly a way to get just the necessary drivers (bare bones) install and skip all the bloatware. I think there is an option to not take the original Dell default setup. That's what I plan to do to have a cleaner, leaner system and remove as much cr@p as possible.
As far as AV I have been very happy with Avast. It is very lightweight and free as well.

i am a little confused. i have reformatted many times and it is a little bit of a hassle, and one i would rather not do with a computer i don't have any experience with. i don't really get why it is so important? is there more bloatware than what i have listed in the OP? if not, why can't you just easily delete/uninstall that cr@p without wasting time and energy with a clean install? is it just a mental thing for you guys?

XPS 15 returned, what about Streak 5?
I jumped Dell's deal in last month for XPS 15 ($881)+ unlocked Streak 5' ($99). But then I found my new XPS 15 was overheated and always gave a blue screen. So I returned XPS 15 back to Dell and the rep agreed to get me fully refunded.
Now I received the unlocked Streak, and this was a promotional sale bundled with any computer above $699. So its price is only for $99 rather than $569 (the common price). I doubt if I can get fully refunded since I have returned XPS 15. Streak for me is not a necessary device and I need to decide if I should also return it within 21 days. Dell's refund process (for XPS 15) is long and I can't wait for 30 days until the Streak return window is closed.
My XPS 15 and Streak have two different order numbers but one Dell purchase ID.
I really need your help!!

Wait for the credit from Dell. If you're only obligated to pay $99 for the Streak, you could sell it an carve out a nice profit.

If Dell partially credit me (re-charge me the discounted $450 for Streak) after 21 days, actually I will get a streak over $500 that can not be returned....

If Dell is refunding your purchase, they will probably not (re)invoice you again for the Streak.
They may, but you can simply ask for an RMA at that point, and the re-invoiced date will be new.
Or, if your worried, you can simply get a hold of dell and send back your Streak.

^Return Merchandise Authorization. You probably wrote the RMA number for your laptop return on the outside of the box, if not, it was on the shipping label.

I would call Dell...if it was part of the "purchase price/promo"...Then, they would want that back. As, you are returning something & the phone was part of that promo.
They, could invoice you for the difference of the $99 promo, and the Dell's selling price of $569. I wouldn't like that to happen to me.
Plus, for me it would be the right thing to do..return it. But, just call Dell & get all your "i's dotted and t's crossed" per se.

Ipod touch LCD
Anyone know if the LCD for an Ipod touch 2nd gen 8g will work with the new Ipod touch 3rd gen 8g.I know the mid frame and digitizer are the same just not sure about the LCD's.

If you look at the parts catalogue for the ipod 3rd gen and the 2nd gen they show the same part numbers. That leads me to believe that they are the same part. The only difference between the 8GB models is the operating system. You can check this on amazon.com
Picked up a Toshiba R835-P50 today from bestbuy.
I picked up the latest toshiba r835. So far so good. I'm liking it overall, it runs league of legends at native res on medium settings around 40-60 fps depending on how much combat is going on... which was gonna be the make or break deal for me as to whether or not i needed a dedicated card... surprisingly i don't.
A couple issues I have so far, the power cord falls out really easily just from movement.
The laptop is emitting that awful new eletronics smell. I ran a few burn in programs all night while it sat under a case fan... CPUID HW monitor says the temps hit 90c+ with both the gpu+cpu at 100%... running furmark and prime 95 to hopefully get this smell out as quickly as possible. It gives me a headache... so far its not so bad... im gonna leave it running all day today while at work.
The screen is really nice. It's definitely a stand out when your at bestbuy looking at it compared to other models.
I messed around with what programs turn on at startup because it was taking well over a minute to fully boot with the 9 different toshiba apps that wanted to run on boot up... Now i've lost all the functionality of the FN keys and I can't figure out which of those programs had the functionality to turn it back on.
Last but not least, my Crucial c300 128gb drive will be in tomorrow. Hopefully I can get this thing to boot in 15-20 seconds.
These are just my initial impressions with it after about an hour and a half of time. I'll be back home to play with it more in about 12 hours. Hopefully some more burn in will get rid of the feint smell thats left.
If you guys want me to test out anything for you just let me know and i'll try to get around to it.
Also, I haven't actually looked into it yet but does anyone know if the hard drive sits on a sata 6gb port? I'll look tonight once i figure out how to boot the UEFI, so far it flies past it in about 1 second so i'm assuming you have to hold the button down on boot up.

how is the fan noise ? I had a r700 and sold it only for that reason. Screen viewing angles were not good as well.

See part 0A34032. Is this new? I haven't seen it before on Lenovo.com, but maybe I've missed it. Whether it's new or not, does anyone know if it's good or not?
I read a few reviews of chiclet vs traditional keyboards. Some love 'em, some hate 'em, some are ambivalent. What do you think? I'm thinking about ordering this combo and trying it out. The price isn't bad, and I can return it if I don't like it.
I usually hate them because the keys are typically very flat. The chiclets of the low end Thinkpads have a very nice contour, and I rather like them. I still prefer the traditional Thinkpad keyboard, but it beats the hell out of a Macbook or Elitebook for me.
i personally dont like the chiclet style, it seems to me that its more about looks than functionality. i use a logitech wave when docked, and i wouldnt trade it for anything. in fact, i have another one new in the box here just in case anything were to happen with this one.

They leave out one major feature, the trackpoint. Even if they leave that out, I might still buy this or enduropoint.

well the best keyboard is the one based on the IBM Model M keyboard. But if the user likes the keyboard style of the Thinkpad Edge then they could easily like this keyboard, since they are based on the same design.
Also, some people uses the Apple desktop keyboard, so Lenovo by having this style of keyboard will ensure that people have an alternative brand to use on their windows based PC that isn't silver or white in colour.
